Ethical company Bio-D has joined forces with a fledging Hull business to bring ethically clean wheelie bins to Hull.
When 27 year old Sam Haxton-Bernard set up EcoClean Wheelie Bin Cleaners with assistance from the Princes Trust earlier this year, he approached Sutton Fields company Bio-D for the cleaning materials to give his business the edge.
Sam said; “When the council decided to empty bins fortnightly instead of weekly, I had the idea to start a bin cleaning service. I knew that I wanted to do something different and I wasn’t aware of anyone else offering a ‘green’ service so I decided to go for it and start an environmentally friendly bin cleaning service. It was definitely the right idea as my customers like the fact that I’m using natural products that won’t harm the environment and they love the way that they clean the bins.”
Sam’s commitment to the environment doesn’t end with the cleaning materials as he also has a water recycling facility in his custom built bin washing van so that he can reduce his water consumption.
Satisfied customer Raeann Rooms posted a comment on EcoClean’s facebook page that said; “I have been using their services for a few months now and can honestly say they are brill – they do a wonderful job” whilst Katie Pryde commented on ‘before and after’ photos of the bins; “Wow! Look how clean those bins are!! Eat your dinner out of em!”
Bio-D’s Sales and Marketing Director Sara Holtby said; “We’re really pleased to be able to support Sam’s innovative business venture and we wish him every success.”
Sam uses a Bio-D sanitiser to neutralise odours before he cleans the bins and a natural eucalyptus disinfectant to refresh them after washing. EcoClean Wheelie Bin Cleaners covers all Hull and surrounding villages and costs £3 per bin.
We’re delighted to share with you our recent success in achieving the prestigious ISO 14001 certification for our environmental management systems.
Following an assessment by an independent body, we were awarded the certification last month for the first time in the business’s 23 year history.
Managing Director Lloyd Atkin led the drive to achieve the certification and is naturally delighted. “We have always been proud of the service we offer our clients and the way that we conduct our business with regard to environmental matters but we’re delighted that a team of experts has validated our practices. Less than1% of all UK businesses achieve ISO 14001, so it’s great that a business of our size should be awarded it and I’d like to thank the team for making it possible. ”
ISO 14001 is a prestigious award that proves a high level of environmental systems management that is supported by the Government and recognised in over 100 countries world-wide. It’s also a reflection of the importance that we place on matching our consumers’ needs.
We’re proud that all of our products are regularly allergy tested by an independent expert. Products contain no petrochemicals, enzymes or animal by-products, packaging is recyclable and manufactured to contain effective levels of recycled material and, wherever possible, raw materials are from sustainable sources. Neither products nor raw materials have been tested on animals and products are approved by BUAV and The Vegan Society.
Here at Bio-D HQ, we’re passionate about bringing you ethically sound, environmentally responsible and hypoallergenic laundry and household cleaning products, so we’re naturally delighted when our enthusiasm is shared by other people. This week, we were thrilled to learn that the lovely people at VegFestUK, Europe’s biggest veggie event, have nominated Bio-D Washing Up Liquid for their Best Vegan Household Product award and now we’re asking for your support. If you’d like to show your passion for our UK made, environmentally responsible detergent that’s tough on grease but gentle on skin, please visit the VegFestUK website and vote for us. DID YOU KNOW that domestic pollution causes more damage to the environment than industrial pollution? An example of this is the use of phosphates in detergents – they are regularly used as a water softening agent, but they are difficult to remove from the sewerage system and can stimulate excessive algae growth that eventually starves water courses of the oxygen that sustains fish and plant life. Needless to say, Bio-D products always have been phosphate free. Please remember to vote for us – you have nothing to lose, but the earth has everything to gain. Thank you.
Here at Bio-D, the new management team of Sara Holtby and Lloyd Atkin is eagerly anticipating the launch of two new products at the Natural and Organic Products Europe Show next month (3-4th April).
We are a Hull based environmentally responsible, ethically sound and hypoallergenic laundry and cleaning products business and have chosen to exhibit at the Olympia show for the first time to launch our new products and to showcase our range of exclusively UK manufactured natural and safe cleaning products that don’t cost the earth.
The new products, the first to be developed by the new team, are;
A one litre Concentrated Lavender Fabric Conditioner that is an effective, hypoallergenic conditioner fragranced with natural lavender oil that leaves clothes soft and delicately scented and a one litre Disinfectant that has been developed to satisfy consumer demand for a smaller, more convenient size of Bio-D’s best selling 5 litre general purpose disinfectant.
We are very proud that all of our products are regularly allergy tested by an independent expert.
We would love to see you at the show – check us out on stand 2023 – but if you can’t make it, you can find our products in leading independent health food shops and Oxfam shops nationwide. Please join our quest to make a cleaner future.
