In the year that Hull ethical cleaning products company Bio-D celebrates its 25th anniversary, directors of the business are celebrating after gaining a prestigious contract to manufacture the world’s first Fairtrade marked household cleaning range.
Traidcraft, which celebrates its 35th anniversary this year, is the UK’s leading fair trade organisation and has developed its ‘Clean & Fair’ range with Bio-D to secure the future of fair trade palm and coconut oil that will transform communities in Ghana and rural India.
Production is already underway for Traidcraft’s Clean & Fair range that comprises Handwash, Washing Up Liquid, Laundry Liquid and Multi-Surface Cleaner and early sales are very encouraging.
Of the alliance, Traidcraft’s Marketing Director, Larry Bush said: “Traidcraft was looking to partner with a leading manufacturer of eco friendly cleaning products with a proven track record. We chose to work with Bio-D because of our shared values and our shared excitement for introducing the world’s first Fairtrade marked household cleaning range.”
Palm Oil is one of the world’s most traded commodities and is in half of all the packaged products that we buy from the shops, but it isn’t fair trade and much of it isn’t even sustainable. It’s often grown on huge plantations with whole ecosystems being destroyed to produce it.
Bio-D’s Managaging Director, Lloyd Atkin is delighted with the partnership: “We’re excited proud to be involved in this ground breaking initiative, especially as we celebrate our 25th anniversary, and are looking forward to driving the project forward.”
Traidcraft fights poverty through trade, helping people in developing countries to transform their lives. Thanks to its supporters, it has been the UK’s leading fair trade organisation for more than 30 years. It runs effective development programmes, sells a great range of fair trade products and campaigns hard to bring about trade justice.
We’re delighted (and very proud) to be able to share this press release with you…
In the year that Hull ethical cleaning products company Bio-D celebrates its 25th anniversary, directors of the business are delighted that Bio-D has been selected as the sole supplier for an innovative environmental project in Wales.
Bio-D is supporting Welsh Water by providing phosphate free laundry detergent, fabric conditioner, washing up liquid and dishwasher detergent for a whole year for a Phosphorus Reduction Project in the village of Llanddewi Brefi in Ceredigion, mid-west Wales. The overall scope of the pioneering project is to reduce the levels of phosphates entering the sewage treatment works.
A significant percentage of water bodies in the UK do not reach good ecological status and excessive nutrient levels are a contributory factor. In order to improve water quality it is therefore necessary to consider how we might reduce nutrient levels in the water environment.
This project will reduce the levels of phosphorus entering the environment and thus reduce its negative effect on fish and invertebrate species, improving the overall health of the river and increasing its recreational potential. In the long term it is hoped that this project will also reduced the carbon footprint
Each of the 150 households in the small village will be encouraged to use Bio-D Washing Powder, Juniper & Seaweed Fabric Conditioner, Washing Up Liquid and Dishwasher Powder; supplied in the village shop. The residents will be encouraged to use these products for one year initially and the water course will be monitored throughout. It is hoped that the project will also provide community and social benefits, encouraging the residents to come together to help their environment, providing a great sense of achievement; and setting the standard for other villages/ towns and cities to follow.
Bio-D’s Managing Director Lloyd Atkin is proud to be involved with the project and said: “It’s great to be able to support an initiative of this environmental importance and scale and I look forward to seeing the difference that phosphate free detergents make to the water quality in Llanddewi Brefi.”
Directors and staff at Hull based ethical cleaning and laundry products company, Bio-D are celebrating after receiving a new listing in Booths family owned supermarkets.
From 26th March, Bio-D’s Home and Garden Sanitiser will take its place alongside other Bio-D products in 24 Booths stores.
Of the listing, Bio-D’s Sales and Marketing Director said: “We’re delighted that Booths have listed Home and Garden Sanitiser just in time for the busy gardening and outdoor leisure season. Made from natural ingredients, it is a fast acting anti-bacterial detergent that is great for cleaning patios, greenhouses, plant pots and indoor and outdoor bins as well as sinks and drains.”
