Top Tips to prevent food poisoning in the home

Scarily, the UK has more than 850,000 reported cases of people experiencing food poisoning a year, according to the Food Standards Agency (FSA).

NHS Choices has issued a Top 10 Tips to prevent food poisoning and we’re particularly interested in the Top 2 as our range of antibacterial hand washes and cleaners are tested to BSEN1276 Standard and proven to kill 99.9% harmful germs, including E Coli, Salmonella and MRSA.

Here are the Top 2, but please follow the link below for the full Ten Ways to Prevent Food Poisoning article;

1.  Wash your hands

Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and hot water and dry them before handling food, after handling raw foods including meat, fish, eggs and vegetables, as well as after touching the bin, going to the toilet, blowing your nose, or touching animals, including pets.

2.  Wash worktops

Wash worktops before and after preparing food, particularly after they’ve been touched by raw meat, including poultry, raw eggs, fish and vegetables. You don’t need to use antibacterial sprays: hot soapy water is fine. (although we would argue that it pays to be extra careful and we advise using an antibacterial spray wherever possible – Sara and Lloyd.)

Bio-D joins Allergy UK to lead the fight against allergies

Allergy UK Nurses Appeal LogoHull company, Bio-D, has joined forces with National Charity, Allergy UK, to support them in leading the fight against allergies by choosing their newly launched £1million Nurses Appeal as its Charity of the Year.

Sara Holtby, Sales & Marketing Director at Bio-D first heard of this unique and inspiring fundraising appeal last October when attending the Industry Group Meeting organised by Allergy UK and instantly knew Bio-D had to be part of it. As a company they share the same ambitious aims and objectives as Allergy UK and it seemed like the perfect fit and a great way to further support the 21 million allergy sufferers across the UK.

To kick-start their fundraising, Bio-D is donating money from each order placed on its website for any of their endorsed Allergy Friendly Products. This offer runs up till 9 June 2013. The team is hoping to be able to donate a generous sum to Allergy UK at the end of the year and this activity is just one of many fundraising activities they have planned to ensure their Charity of the Year relationship is a success.

Sara says “Bio-D applauds the work that Allergy UK does to educate people about allergies and provide support for sufferers and we wanted to help Allergy UK to continue its vital work. As producers of Allergy Friendly products, we’re delighted to be supporting the Nurses Appeal by donating 10p from the sale of all of our Allergy UK accredited laundry products between now and 9th June. Visit for more information.”

Rebecca Carey, Fundraising Manager at Allergy UK says ‘We are thrilled to have the support of Bio-D who are committed to supporting our Nurses Appeal. The money they raise will make a huge difference to the services we are able to offer allergy and intolerance sufferers across the UK’.

‘Allergy UK has launched a nationwide fundraising appeal to raise £1million to provide specialist allergy nurses within communities across the UK. We are taking action after listening and responding to the voice of the allergy sufferer through its surveys, online forum and national helpline. Allergy UK’s nurses will help to support GPs to meet the challenge the current allergy epidemic is placing on them within an already overloaded Primary Care health system’

Vegan toilet cleaner review

Thanks to Maggie Cotton for this review of Bio-D toilet cleaner.. we really appreciate you taking the time to do this;

Vegan Toilet Cleanerbio_toilet

A biodegradable natural toilet cleaner from Bio D.   Made with all natural ingredients that have not been tested on animals and is Vegan Society Approved.

This large bottle of toilet cleaner is pretty good,  it does a good job at cleaning the loo.  The smell takes a little getting used to,  it smells a bit vinegary with a hint of lemongrass,  I would prefer something that smells like a pine or flowery,  however that is personal choice.   I like that this is a natural product and is quite good value, I paid  £2.45 for a large 1 litre bottle.

Each Bio D toilet cleaner is Vegan Society Approved,  BUAV approved.  Allergy tested,  not tested on any animals.  Recyclable.  Ethically sound.  I bought mine on line,  but it is sold in most health food shops.

Renaming Disinfectant

Valued followers, we’d like to enlist your help!

Forthcoming legislative changes (click to read the paper on ‘Placing Biocidals on the Market‘) mean that we will be forced to rename our Disinfectant product and that presents us with a real problem as we cannot think of a better name.  Can anybody help us to come up with an alternative name for our ethical, all natural and effective indoor and outdoor d**********t?!!  Please reply to this post or send us suggestions via e mail, facebook or twitter – we’d really appreciate your help…
